A versão Game Boy Color é um jogo de role-playing com combate por turnos. O jogador controla Harry, começando quando Hagrid o leva para a Rua Diagonal. A história segue rigorosamente os livros, sendo todos os cenários a partir desse ponto nos livros jogáveis, exceto pela adição de faixas de monstros como ratos, morcegos e aranhas que patrulham a maioria dos locais.
