The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap é um jogo de ação e aventura em perspectiva superior que narra as origens do malvado Vaati, da Four Swords. Como a maioria dos outros títulos da série, The Minish Cap apresenta o território totalmente explorável de Hyrule, embora possa ser visto pelos olhos de um humano ou pelos olhos de um Minish, uma raça de pessoas minúsculas e uma forma alternativa em que Link pode se transformar. Diferente do foco multijogador dos outros jogos da série, The Minish Cap mantém a forma original de exploração e dungeons como vista em A Link to the Past, Oracle of Seasons e Oracle of Ages, além de trazer personagens e mecânicas do jogo anteriores, como Malon e o Spin Attack. Novas funcionalidades incluem fundir Kinstones e encolher até o tamanho de um Minish.
